There In Your Hands.
Saturday, September 25, 2010
"You have known for a long time what you must do. You have sense enough: don't give way to drunkenness and incontinence of speech; don't give way to sensual lust; and, above all, to the love of money. And close your taverns. If you can't close all, at least two or three. And, above all- don't lie.""You mean about Diderot?""No, not about Diderot. Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love, and in order to occupy and distract himself without love he gives way to passions and coarse pleasures, and sinks to bestiality in his vices, all from continual lying to other men and to himself. The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offence, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill- he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offence, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it, and so pass to genuine vindictiveness. But get up, sit down, I beg you. All this, too, is deceitful posturing...."- The Brothers Karamazov, Book 2 (Chapter 2 - The Old Buffoon)

Big Eyed Fish.
Tuesday, September 21, 2010
Look at this big eyed fish, swimming in the seaHow it dreams to be a bird, swooping diving through the breeze
So one day, it caught a big old wave up onto the beach
Now it's dead, you seeBeneath the sea is where a fish should be.
You make me sad.

Hand Me Down.

Lay all your troubles down.
I've had the entire album on my laptop for a couple of years now. I never did take the time to listen to this song, so it came as a pleasant surprise when it played last week (thanks to iTunes' shuffle mode). Now I have it playing almost every night, and almost every time I drive out.
Someday they'll find your small town worldOn a big town avenueGonna make you like the way they talkWhen they're talking to youGonna make you break out of your shellCuz they tell you toGonna make you like the way they lieBetter than the truthThey'll tell you everthingYou wanted someone else to sayThey're gonna break your heart, yeahFrom what I've seenYou're just one more hand me downCuz no one's tried to give youWhat you needSo lay all your troubles downI am with you nowSomebody oughta take you inTry to make you love againTry to make you like the way they feelWhen they're under your skinNever once do you think that they would lieWhen they're holding youThen you wonder why they haven't calledWhen they said they'd call youYou'll start to wonderIf you're ever gonna make it byYou'll start to thinkYou were born blindFrom what I've seenYou're just one more hand me downCuz no one's tried to give youWhat you needSo lay all your troubles downI am with you nowI'm here for the hard timesThe straight to your heart timesWhen living ain't easyYou can stand up against meAnd maybe rely on meAnd cry on me, yeahOh no, no, noSomeday they'll open up your worldShake you down to the drawing boardDo their best to change youThey still can't erase youFrom what I've seenYou're just one more hand me downCuz no one's tried to give youWhat you needSo lay all your troubles downI am with you nowLay them down on meYou're just one more hand me downAnd all those nights don't give youWhat you needSo lay all your troubles down on me- Matchbox Twenty
Here's a link to the band singing the song live. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Strike Three.
Wednesday, September 1, 2010
They told me there was no turning back. I knew well enough.
But at the same time I'm terribly afraid.
Of what?
Simply put - of everything after.
